Esposito Coaches Danbury Whalers in Cup Playoffs

Esposito, an East Haven native, led the team to a successful season.

Phil Esposito, who grew up in a hockey-playing and coaching family in , is now the head coach of the Danbury Whalers, preparing his team to face its rival, the Wayne, NJ, Outlaws, in the Federal Hockey League Commissioner’s Cup Finals that begin Saturday.

An article in the New Haven Register profiles how Esposito’s physical style matches his team’s, and his rise to head coach, leading the AA-affiliated Whalers to a 30-win season. East Haven residents will in October at the Patsy DiLungo Arena, where Esposito played youth hockey.

The Whalers and the Outlaws will play a best of five series beginning in New Jersey this weekend and continuing in Danbury the following weekend.
