East Haven Unemployment Rate Drops Down to 8.2 Percent

The town's unemployment is now at its lowest level since last spring, according to Connecticut Department of Labor numbers.

East Haven's unemployment rate now sits at its lowest level since this past spring.

According to the latest figures released by the Connecticut Department of Labor, East Haven's unemployment for December was 8.2 percent.

In October, the town's unemployment rate was at 9.3. And it was at 8.8 percent for the month of November.

Additionally, the department's figures also showed the labor force in East Haven dropped slightly over the same two-month period: from 16,593 in October to 16,109 in December.

In Connecticut, the pool of jobless people last month also dropped to 7.8 percent overall. Nationally, the United State's unemployment rate is 7.6 percent.

East Haven Numbers

East Haven's unemployment rate reached its three-year low last April, rose to 8.7 percent in May, was 8.4 percent in March, 8.6 percent in February and 8.7 percent in January 2012.

In 2011 East Haven’s annual average unemployment rate was 9.7 percent. In 2010 it was 10.2 percent.

The town's highest reported unemployment rate over the last two years was in January 2011, when 10.7 percent of East Haven was out of work.
