East Haven Town Pool Has New ADA Lift

A new Americans with Disabilities Act pool lift was recently installed at the East Haven Town Pool in the old high school at 200 Tyler Street.

The following is a press release from the East Haven Mayor's Office.

East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr., along with Director of Administration &
Management, Arthur Desorbo and Assistant Director, Frank Gentilesco, Jr
check out the newly installed Aspen ADA Pool Lift in the Town Pool located
at 200 Tyler Street.

The Aspen ADA pool lift and ADA spa lift is an ADA/ABA compliant battery powered lift that has a safe and easy operating system and is rotationally and vertically powered.

The lift was purchased with monies requested by Administration and Management in the Mayor's Capital budget for 2012-13 and earmarked for ADA improvements.

The previous mechanical lift that was replaced was not ADA compliant.

Hahaha, well Mr. McCann, as you can see I did not have too much to say about others. Mr. Gentilesco, however, as you agree, is a true gentleman.
Diana Lewis December 03, 2012 at 06:08 PM
Mr. McCann just what information did you receive concerning Mr Hoff's arrest? Why don't you tell us what you have before you say he's guilty?
Richard Poulton December 03, 2012 at 06:09 PM
Playing devils advocate here, many times in a domestic dispute and I am not stating this is the case, just responding to above, yes even if an arrest is made for let's say domestic violence, the case can be heard in Family Court. These cases can be expunged from public record. Case dismissed - same thing. I find no history with the CT Judical public records section that list the arrest of Hoff. Now that doesn't mean one did not occure. Just not showing in public records. But if one did occure, Hoff has the right to reframe from commenting or come out and explain further. Let the readers and or voters decide. We all have "baggage" from the past. Just look at Ted Kennedy, killed someone; or the mayor from DC with cocaine; or that congressman from down south caught with bribe money in his freezer. Public foregave.
Dan McCann December 03, 2012 at 06:11 PM
Diana, I never said anyone was guilty. Like I told Patrick this what I was told and I felt it was best that Mr. Hoff acknowledge it either way. At this point who knows what the real truth is? Mr. Hoff will not answer the question. I'd like some more details myself.
Diana Lewis December 03, 2012 at 06:16 PM
Mr McCann In reading this blog, I thought he already answered that question
Robert D. Hoff - Working for a better East Haven December 03, 2012 at 06:19 PM
Mr McCann, As I have stated I have no arrest record yet you continue to pursue this course of action may I remind you that to make false accusations in writing you are leaving yourself wide open should I choose to pursue legal action. So far we're looking at possibly slander and libel shall we continue this little cat and mouse game?
Dan McCann December 03, 2012 at 06:26 PM
Um...Mr. Hoff you are a "Public Official" I am making no accusations just following up as an interested citizen and blogger asking questions of someone who is seeking public office. I know the law Mr. Hoff and don't take lightly to your cowardness and light threats. Answer the question as it has developed Mr. Hoff. You may want to check Mr. Hoff that when you seek public office or hold one as you do the rules change and you are not held to the same standards as average Joe Citizen. Sorry but nice try...Was there an incident on Michael St where the East Haven Police were called and you were involved in a domestic dispute? Your public is waiting for your answer.
Jacobo Arnez December 03, 2012 at 06:37 PM
If only we found out Mr. Huff was arrested for beating the bejesus out of Mr McGann, my day would be complete.
Dan McCann December 03, 2012 at 06:39 PM
Jacobo I'm a lover not a fighter anymore...I might break a hip...LOL!

Mr Mcann, Can you tell us just why you moved from the Bronx to East Haven,CT?
Dan McCann December 03, 2012 at 06:57 PM
Mr. Hoff: If I answer the question will you answer mine? Here's a leap of faith. I actually moved from the Bronx to Tuckahoe, NY (Westchester County) after I was married and lived there for 4 years until my company TCI Cable of Westchester transfered me to TCI Cablevision of South Central CT. I chose East Haven because it was the same type of community I grew up in The Bronx. Hard working families and decent honest people. I've been here almost 18 years now. Now answer mine...

Oh, this has been very entertaining. Would love to hear more about this incident, especially since Mr. Hoff takes great pleasure in airing everyone else's dirty laundry! His nastiness far outweighs any good he may do and anyone would be a fool to even consider him as a serious candidate. Talk about karma...

I've met a mixed bag of people who are either inspired by McCann or just can't stand him for his stances. Normally those that can't stand him are the ones he's either pointed out or are ones who are connected to the ones pointed out. I've actually met him and like his honesty and here is another perfect example of the truth coming out. This guy Hoff has something to say about everything and whats the old phrase people in glass houses? When McCann came in and smashed a boulder through Hoff's Glass House. What next mouth piece will Gene have to recruit? I think Hoff's poltical adventure ended right here today. He was caught evading and deflecting the truth. Would still like to know what it is....

Taking great pleasure in everybody else's misery. Schadenfreude; an East Haven tradition. A Radio Shack scanner is recommended if you nosy small minds wish to entertain yourselves further. Great Christmas gift! Pick up all the local police and fire frequencies to your heart's content. Invoking Karma is another matter altogether. Careful what you ask for.... Glass houses...
Mitch December 03, 2012 at 07:57 PM
Mr. Hoff, a point of clarification. The State's investigation into the disability pension received by the Mayor had nothing to do with whether or not he is truly disabled. It all comes from a state law that says if a person is receiving a disability pension from a community and that person goes back to work for that same community, he or she cannot continue to collect the disability pension. This law is now under review, as is the mayor's case, with a final decision to be handed down soon. Now, as to whether or not the Mayor looks foolish sitting in the chair, that's a whole different story.
Diana Lewis December 03, 2012 at 09:14 PM
Here again you seem to be finding guilt on a alledged arrest. Can you actually prove there was one? If not, stop badgering him
Flowers December 03, 2012 at 09:28 PM
This blog stream is about a new ADA pool lift, if anyone is confused. Some kind of law now mandates that these things be installed at any pool accessed by the public. They cost a fortune and make a "fun" pool look like a physical therapy bath. They are showing up in hotels and schools and I have never seen one of them in use. A boon for lift manufacturers....a bummer for the rest of us.

Flowers, I look forward to your comments they often add to the conversation as is the case this time. The law that you refer to is The Americans with Disabilities Act which was signed into law in 1990 by George Bush Sr. The Law and it's more recent admendments help to prevent discrimination based on disability and improve accessibility for those with disabilites. Even though the law came into existence in 1990 East Haven seemingly never enforced the law and it is only through the hardwork of The American Disability Act Committee that changes are finally being brought to our community to make the town more accessible for residents with disabilities. It has been my privlige and honor to serve as Chairman on this BiPartisan committee and work to ensure that our town is indeed more accessible to residents with disabilites. For residents with various disabilites having the town comply with the law means they are more able to access parts of the town that were once blocked by barriers and they are more able to enjoy an improved quality of life. I have worked hard to ensure that our town is truly open and accessible to all residents and I will continue to work to improve the quality of life for residents with disabilites in our community. Diana it's not badgering it's seeking the truth. Mr. Hoff obviously has something to hide otherwise he would fully disclose what happened on Michael St
Nick Palladino December 03, 2012 at 11:45 PM
Dan, I am not sticking up for Hoff, but you should look up the arrest records of all the people involved in town and state office. You would be shocked. I agree that all people involved should tell about their backgrounds. But that is just what I think, it's not the law.
Dan McCann December 03, 2012 at 11:56 PM
Nick, I honestly wouldn't be shocked I know what's out there but you also can't go around telling everyone what a great guy you are without raising some eyebrows like Hoff does. I found it incredible when I heard the story and honestly did not believe it until a very reliable source told me. I thought it would be appropriate to ask Robert himself and to no surprise I got the non-answer I expected. Funny thing is if he did the crime and the judge ordered accelerated rehabilitation and or community service now we know why there is such a high profile with him! He's telling the world and the judge look at me!!!

Well darn, maybe Mr. Dans got somethin there. maybe we should look up the arrest records for all the town officials and folks that represent the town. heck maybe the town chairmans for the dems and the reps. xcept not sure who is the town chairman for the reps? who is that now? dont think its mr. lou cause he is on the poolice commission? who is it? aw heck when we find out we can look up to see if he ever arrested. yup we can all start a playin mr. dans game of attackin folks. thats what he does whenever he wants attention for hisself. he picks some folk as the target and then goes on the attack. remember when he run against ole mike lawlor, that was when he was attackin the folks of a different persuasion. now he says its ok for those folks to be that way. hes got no problem with it. but sure had a problem with it when he attacked ole Mike L. for supportin em. then he attacked the police commission claimed they picked up the phone and order the fbi to come to town, only the fbi was in town long before any folks knew, then he was Mr. Miller's best buddy, but when the police commission voted to stick it to Mr. Miller, ole Dan didnt even go to the meetin to support Mr. Miller. he done dropped him like a hot potatoe cause he is a cooperatin with the fbi. thought mr. dan said he was a leavin the political scene, but nope here is a back again, lookin for attention and accolades. better watch out folks the vine will get ya. but ya know what hangs in vines....snakes.
ASmith December 04, 2012 at 02:28 AM

So what you are stating is that there are those within at least town government that have arrest records. Interesting. FYI, there are 209 town people either elected or appointed in some way, serving EH. This number taken from the public listing of all who serve. In checking the public records for criminal convictions of all 209, found only one has an active case pending, serving on the Police Comm. By the way, is due in court at 10 AM this morning. Found three possible, but w/o verifying DOB's can not be confirmed. So, I believe your statement is unfounded as it relates to EH.
Dan McCann December 05, 2012 at 12:36 AM
At the Town Council Meeting but "The Candidate" Robert Hoff is not present. How can one who has such interest not be at the meeting??? Could it be the recent alleged discovery of an arrest that has kept him home?
Robert D. Hoff - Working for a better East Haven December 09, 2012 at 10:53 PM
Mr McCann, I was thinking about the question you posed being..How can one who has such interest not be at the meeting?..Did you know that East Haven's Third District Town Councilman William Richardson Jr has missed at least Five meetings since being elected to the council including: The Town Council meeting in April when the council voted to increase the tax rate 4.36 mills and approved a $86.7 million budget for next year. I attended the meeting and stated that the budget would in fact hurt the seniors and those with disabilities living on fixed incomes and that even if their homes were assessed at a lower value because of the revaluation, it wasn't’ enough. I said the food pantry and other services in town were going to be used more as a result, as townspeople can't afford to live with the raising tax rate. I recognized the need that exists and have held several food drives to benefit the East Haven Food Pantry and help our neighbors in need including the homeless. Councilman Richardson was also absent from voting on the Mayors Recommended Capital Budget for the fiscal year 2012 - 2013. I attended the meeting and spoke out in favor of the approval of $10,000 dollars to improve the quality of life for the Towns residents with disabilites. Mr. Hoff... I'll put this as frank and blunt as possible. You are a bold faced liar and coward because you can't answer the question I presented on this forum. You are unworthy to serve in any capacity in this Government because you strike out at others and don't answer the questions YOU were asked. This is no threat but a promise you either answer the question about what happened on Michael St or I will FOI every call on that street and I will expose you for what you are. Man up Mr. Candidate. As for Mr. Richardson. If the Town of East Haven replaces you with him it's time to move. You on your best day couldn't even get close to him in service, commitment or the character of a human being. @ Julie... I know it's a little harsh but Mr. Hoff deserves every word. I hope you keep this post up.
Robert D. Hoff - Working for a better East Haven December 10, 2012 at 05:54 AM
Mr. McCann, I have answered your question over and over again. What don't you understand about the fact that I have a Clean Police Record? Just to add Mr. McCann the part about you moving on please do the town favor and do move on the town would be a much better place without you.
