East Haven Students Assist in Vintage Plane Restoration

Some 50 high school students from throughout Connecticut help Sikorsky Aircraft refurbish classic Corsair aircraft.

students will join several of their counterparts from four other Connecticut high schools later this afternoon to help Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. restore a vintage World War II airplane, according to a report on HartfordBusiness.com.

The 50 or so students taking part in the project — many of whom intend to go on to careers in science, technology, math or engineering — will assist Sikorsky engineers in refurbishing the plane, a Vought F4U-4 Corsair fighter-bomber.

In addition, the students will also be given the opportunity to get behind the controls of a propeller-plane flight simulator that will be set up at the Shelton airport.
