East Haven's Unemployment Rate Rises Back Up to 9.1 Percent

The town's unemployment rate has shifted back up to above 9 percent, according to Connecticut Department of Labor numbers.

After dropping to one of its lowest levels over the past two years late last year, East Haven's unemployment rate has jumped back up above 9 percent.

According to the latest figures released by the Connecticut Department of Labor, East Haven's unemployment in February sat at 9.1 percent.

In December, the town's unemployment rate was at 8.2. And it was at 8.8 percent for the month of November.

Additionally, the department's figures also showed the labor force in East Haven dropped over the two-month period: from 16,109 in December to 15,971 in Febuary.

In Connecticut, the pool of jobless people last month also rose to 8.4 percent overall. Nationally, the United State's unemployment rate is 8.1 percent.

East Haven Numbers

East Haven's unemployment rate reached its three-year low last April, rose to 8.7 percent in May, was 8.4 percent in March, 8.6 percent in February and 8.7 percent in January 2012.

In 2012, East Haven’s annual average unemployment rate was 8.9 percent. In 2011 it was 9.7, and in 2010 it was 10.2 percent.

The town's highest reported unemployment rate over the last two years was in January 2011, when 10.7 percent of the town was out of work.
