East Haven's Unemployment Rate Drops Back to 8.4 Percent

The town's unemployment rate once again sits at its lowest point since April 2009.

After a post-holiday season bump up, 's unemployment rate dropped back down to its lowest numbers since Dec. 2009.

According to the latest figures released by the Connecticut Department of Labor, the town’s unemployment is at 8.4 percent  — or 1,387 people.

In Connecticut, the pool of jobless people declined slightly to 8.1 percent.

East Haven's unemployment rate was at 8.6 percent in February and 8.7 percent in January. And the town's rate was .

In 2008 East Haven’s annual unemployment rate was 6.3 percent. In 2007 it was 5.0 percent.

The town's highest reported unemployment rate over the last two years was in February 2011, when 10.5 percent of East Haven was out of work.
