East Haven Ranked Last in Connecticut Mid-Sized Towns List

East Haven comes in 26 out of 26 for its population category in Connecticut Magazine's annual "Rating the Towns" rankings.

Connecticut Magazine recently released its latest “Rating the Towns” list of the top places to live in Connecticut, and East Haven finished last in the category of towns with populations between 25,000 to 50,000 people.

East Haven placed 26th out of 26 communities in its population category on the magazine’s latest list, placing the town behind communities like Naugatuck, Torrington and Branford. Because of its strong education system, low crime rate and economic activity, Westport placed first on the list.

The magazine compiled its rating based on five separate criteria — Education, Crime, Economy, Cost and Leisure — which it said most people rank as the main indicators of quality of life in a community.

On that model, East Haven ranked 24th in Education, 23rd in Crime, 20th in Economy, 10th in Cost, and 25th in Leisure. In 2009, the last time the magazine released its full rankings of all communities in the state, East Haven ranked 23rd on the list of towns between 25,000 to 50,000. The full list can be viewed here.
