DOT: Amtrak Bridge Work to Close Route 1 from Branford to East Haven

A section of Route 1 from Branford to East Haven will be closed to through traffic from Saturday evening until early Sunday afternoon.

Travel along Route 1 in Branford and East Haven will be temporarily interrupted this weekend to allow the removal of existing beams along the Amtrak Bridge in Branford, as the project to replace the train crossing moves into its final stages.

Route 1 will be closed to through traffic for the removal of the beams between 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 until noon on Sunday, Jan. 13, according to the state Department of Transportation.

"The replacement of the existing bridge will provide more travel lanes on U.S. Route 1 along with improvements to traffic signals and drainage," state DOT officials stated in a press release announcing the road closure.
