Dispatches from East Haven on Hurricane Irene

Reactions from around town on Hurricane Irene's damage.

Hurricane Irene arrived leaving a path of destruction that hit East Haven particularly hard. According to the National Weather Service, the danger hasn't passed yet as wind and flooding is expected to continue.

Reports say that some homes have been destroyed by the flooding, and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy visited the area to survey the damage with Mayor April Capone. As of 1:55 p.m., 5,905 East Haven customers were without power.

According to the National Weather Service:

DESTRUCTIVE SURF FROM HURRICANE IRENE WILL CONTINUE TO PUMMEL THE ATLANTIC FACING SHORELINES, WITH SEVERE BEACH EROSION AND WASHOVERS EXPECTED THROUGH TODAY. AS TROPICAL STORM IRENE DEPARTS, MAXIMUM WINDS ARE FORECAST TO BE IN THE 30 TO 40 MPH RANGE WITH GUSTS TO 55 MPH THROUGH LATE AFTERNOON. WINDS WILL DIMINISH THIS EVENING.
