Damaged Sea Walls Concern East Haven Residents

Red tape has slowed repairs, but this year's hurricane season is already underway — with the possibility of a second tropical storm already brewing off the Florida coast.

When Tropical Storm Irene hit last August, many shoreline residents said on whether their beach homes were destroyed or only damaged.

According to an article in the New Haven Register this week, some East Haven residents who are still making repairs from the last storm are wary of facing this year’s hurricane season because their sea walls are still not restored.

But sea walls require state and local government approval, which has slowed down getting repairs done.

Early Start to Hurricane Season

And this year's hurricane season is already off to an early start, with concern of the possible formation of "Tropical Storm Beryl" — a low pressure system currently brewing off the Florida coast.

Various models show that the storm, if it fully forms, could track its way right up the East Coast later this week or early next.

Tropical Storm Alberto kicked off the unusually early hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean last week, tracking up the eastern seaboard but away from the shoreline, before the system weakened.

The hurricane season officially starts on June 1.
