Reading the comments from Mr. Smith over the last few months, you would think there would be a couple more s's in his name. just saying...
Paul Carbo March 01, 2012 at 01:56 PM
I myself am not very fond of Mr Perez and the fact that he has been elected to the Vice Chair of the Police Commission has no bearing on this case. I do agree that just like our four officers, he is innocent until proven guilty. I do feel that Mr Serio should put Mr Perez into a different position or on leave until this has been determined. If he is found guilty of this conduct he should voluntarily remove himself from the BOPC. What he is being accused of is much more serious than an off color remark. This is not a double standard, he works with our kids.
ASmith March 01, 2012 at 02:32 PM
Better spoken point of view than your peers Mr. Paul. Glad to see you dont want to tar and feather the fella before all the facts come out in court.
ASmith March 01, 2012 at 02:35 PM
But still wonderin if Mr. CRisci and Mr. Valaquez supported him bein put in his new position? Was it a unanimous vote? guess I gots to wait to watch the meetin on tv or tune into the politics blog folks site if they put it up. I would think Mr. Crisci bein deep in politics in this burg knew what was a comin? Chief of Police update the Mayor, Mayor update Mr. Crisci? thats how it thought it a works in politics in this town. news travels the channels of communication through the ranks.
Paul Carbo March 01, 2012 at 03:00 PM
ASmith It was a unanimous vote and even if they knew what was coming down as I mentioned earlier, it should have no bearing at this time because these are only allegations of this crime. Why must everything that happens in this town become a political arena. I truly believe that Mr Crisci and Mr Valaquez have good intentions and are not politically motivated. We need our town to heal and all of this bantering will not help the process. If Carl is guilty then he should pay the price by losing his job, having a problem interacting with kids means that this might not be the best job for him, be they nasty or not. With respect to the BOPC, he should consider what is best for the town. If he thinks that the committee would be best served with him remaining as Vice Chair of the committee that oversees the Police Department with a conviction on his record then let his conscience be his guide. I am not the most religious person but I stand by what Jesus said in the Bible, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" Let's let the law take it's course with all of those that are accused of crimes in our town and stop the political nonsense.

perez was set up, a lot of satanic activity in these heathen schools,[correction officer to inmate mentality]. you need old testament warriors like samson, gideon, barak[not obama, his namesake out of the book of judges who wouldn t go to battle unless a prophetess named deborah joined], to combat the powers of darkness.

out of curiosity, and don't misunderstand, my daughter is at the highschool and I know to my core that she will never have in school suspension (or a detention for that matter) because she is almost too good, but my questions are, who does he work for directly BOE, EHHS, EHPD or the Town in general, honestly why do we need this? shouldn't a high school student be sent HOME and punished and inconviencing his parents who are really responsible for changing his behavior?? I can sort of understand that in school means they are supervised to some degree, if parents for example just leave their kid hone all day and go to work what kind of punishment is that?? I will say this, if either of my kids got so much as a DETENTION, they would be volunteering for public works and picking up trash somewhere, but then I am really strict, unlke MANY parents in town. It's my generation, I see it with a lot of my friends here in town and all over, they buy everything for their kids, they follow an "order" with "ok" (i.e. empty the dishwasher ok?) so who's in charge.... I always say, my kids live in a benevolent dictatorship. They can have an opinion but not a vote, And if they get out of line it's the gulag for them.....which means they go off the grid, no phones, internet, tv, NOTHING but books or other non=electronic activities. You can't undo spoiled children ever. And if your kid is getting inschool suspension, DISCIPLINE him/her at HOME!!!

Casting pearls before swine here, Thomas. Literally...
Rosie March 01, 2012 at 05:13 PM
Becki, he works directly for the BOE. He makes way to much money to be a glorified babysitter. You are absolutely correct, in-school suspension is a complete joke. Back in my day, you got suspended, you were home. But then again, that meant the wrath of mom or dad. Now it seems parents always take the easy way out, and the schools do nothing but accommodate them. It should be a punishment to the kids for doing wrong, and an inconvenience for the parents for not teaching them right from wrong. I, as well as all 3 of my children, have never gotten so much as a reprimand from a teacher or administrator, but then again, I, as well as my 3 children were brought up to respect authority. Now a-days, parents are quick to tell kids they are right and everyone else is wrong. Not that it gives anyone a right to threaten or put their hands on a child. If that ever happened to any of my children an arrest would be the least of their problems. All that being said, I do not know the circumstances of this particular situation. If Mr. Perez did threaten a child, then he should be immediately terminated. He should be on a leave right now. I guess we have to wait and see what the story is.

Well then, you should make yourself a necklace Jacko.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many of our elected officials wear so many different hats in the public arena. They get themselves so intertwined in politics, get the above the law mentality, then it becomes difficult to get rid of them. It makes you wonder: What is the agenda? With a town of well over 20,000 residents you would also think the job pool would be plentiful...
Lou March 01, 2012 at 06:02 PM
Amy I've been here for 13 years and I am flabbergasted! I can't believe how much this town has and is suffering. I think we see it because we moved in from the outside. In my opinion, the people that have never lived anywhere else can't see what a circus this town really is.
The Commish March 01, 2012 at 06:08 PM
You wonder why surrounding towns paint a negative picture of our town. The controlling actions of a few end up representing the majority within the public's eye. My mom always said you are a product of your surroundings, and it holds true. So sick and tired of the few that consistantly give East Haven a black eye in the media... Get Out & Grow Up before your kids are embarassed to know you...
Bob Fawkes March 01, 2012 at 08:15 PM
Good point Lou. When they've spend their entire adult lives suckling the public teat, be it in some capacity as town employees, or by milking workers compensation, or being prematurely retired with bloated pensions, or "hooking up" family and friends on the public teat, or even in some cases (as with the village idiot mayor of ours) suckling two teats at once, when this is all they know, they see nothing wrong with their behavior. They rail against immigrants who come here to better themselves and yet, they fail to see what is obvious to everyone else; they themselves are the worst parasites of all.
Bob Fawkes March 01, 2012 at 08:18 PM
Classy. Did Nana teach you that one?
Luigi (the original) March 01, 2012 at 08:41 PM
As classy as your suckling teats analogy, and I bet YOUR NANA taught you THAT.
Patrick Madley March 01, 2012 at 11:08 PM
Dan, I do respect you and how you speak out against what is right and wrong, but, aren't you one who believes in innocent until proven guilty? That applies here as well as everywhere else. (I have never once posted an article against anyone, republican or democrat that said get rid of them without due process) everyone is entitled to a fair trial and all the court system has to offer.
Dan McCann March 02, 2012 at 01:16 AM
Its about protecting our kids and now our officers. Our Officers are not Political and as you see with my blogs Politicians are held to a different standard.

that was quick, NEXT!
Richard Poulton March 21, 2012 at 11:58 AM
Up-date on case. Continued to April 3rd. His attorney is Marty Echter, partner with Cofrancisco. A case is continued for either the defense attorney or the state is not yet ready to proceed. Usually its not the state. Gee wiz.
Captain Blood March 21, 2012 at 03:50 PM
There he Gos again Mr Poulton has no way of knowing why this was not ready to proceed. He just likes to start getting everyone worked up. Gee wiz as you say Richard
CitizenVoice March 21, 2012 at 04:12 PM
Wouldn't anyone like to know the nature of the alleged threat? This could very well be another one of those not-what-it appears-to-be moments. Since the town has a small hiistory of politically motivated police actions, it leaves me wondering what actually happened here. I was told by a student that this involved a very obnoxious kid whose parents have a grudge. Of course this is just heresay, but it still makes me wonder. Does it make anyone else just a little uneasy?
Becki Pastor March 21, 2012 at 04:22 PM
Continuances are typically granted when all parties are not available on the scheduled date, which usually means that the defense attorney may be scheduled for trial in another courthouse which always takes precedent over hearings. As for parties not being "ready" that is not reason enough for an initial hearing date, if the parties are not prepared those concerns are voiced in front of the judge.
Rosie March 21, 2012 at 05:59 PM
What makes me uneasy is that some people thinks it is perfectly ok for an adult in a position of authority to threaten a child, because, after all, he is "a very obnoxious kid whose parents have a grudge". He has not been proven guilty yet, but if it is true, it is really disturbing.
Ann Della Camera March 22, 2012 at 04:22 AM
Captain Blood, rememeber innocent until proven guilty, were you there at any incident that happened. If no I suggest you wait until something is proven before condemming people.
Ann Della Camera March 22, 2012 at 04:27 AM
Captain Blood, remember innocent until proven guilty, if you were notpresent at any of the incidents, than I suggest you not prejudge.
Richard Poulton November 08, 2012 at 11:48 PM
He was due in court today. Wonder if he got another it continued, again?
Richard Poulton November 09, 2012 at 11:14 PM
Looks like Commissioner Perez entered a plea of not guilty. Next date is for pre-trial hearing on 11/13/2012.
