Police Commission Vice Chairman Arrested

Newly appointed vice chairman Carl Perez turned himself into police after a complaint he allegedly threatened a male student in his role as security employee at East Haven High School.

On February 29, 2012, the East Haven Police Department arrested Carl Perez, 55, of 63 Taylor Avenue, East Haven, CT on a warrant charging him with Threatening in the 2nd Degree.

Earlier this month the Department received a complaint from a parent of an East Haven High School student regarding a threat that was made against her son. The threat was allegedly made by Mr. Perez who is a school security employee.

Mr. Perez turned himself in at the police department, was processed and released on a written promise to appear. Mr. Perez was given a court date of March 7, 2012.

Lt. Joseph Slane, the spokesperson for the police department, noted that no further information would be released due to the age of the vicitm.

Published reports say newly appointed Vice Chairman Carl Perez is expected to turn himself in to police today on charges he threatened a teenager.

The New Haven Register reported today that Perez might be charged with second degree threatening in connection with an incident involving his duties as the in-school suspension officer at East Haven High School.

The arrest would come less than 24 hours after Perez was named to the leadership post on the Police Commission at the commission’s meeting Tuesday.
