East Haven Fire Department - "Smoke Showing"

This week the East Haven Fire Department has been challanged with an un-thinkable tradegy. We mourn together for the loss and extend our sympathies to the famlies and everyone who has been negatively impacted by this tradegy.

This month’s East Haven Fire Department blog is going to look at specific fireground tactics for average sized residential homes.

Instead of reinventing the wheel I have chosen to utilize a different medium this month. I ask that you utilize the following link watch the associated video.

While you are watching please consider the following facts.

· The East Haven Fire Department arrives at a house fire with 10 firefighters and 1 fire officer. This is prior to any volunteer who is responding from home.

·  1988 was the last time our staffing was increased by two firefighter’s.

· In 1988 the average home size was 2,005 sq ft. The average home size peaked to be greater 2600 sq ft in 2006. This translates that East Haven’s firefighters are fighting fires in homes much bigger today with greater frequency then in 1988 with the same number of firefighters.
