Hurricane Sandy Virtual Food Drive Launched

Connecticut Food Bank has launched a Hurricane Sandy virtual food drive to help respond to the rapidly growing need for food assistance.

You can help your neighbors who are feeling the impact of Hurricane Sandy.  Connecticut Food Bank has launched a virtual food drive to help respond to the rapidly growing need for food assistance.

With so many families with limited or no resources to put food on the table, we need your help now more than ever.  For these families, it is not as simple as restocking when the power comes back on.  They can’t always afford food under normal circumstances.  And low-wage workers may not be getting paid for those hours that their employers are closed due to power outages.

You can access our Hurricane Virtual Drive here.  Thank you for thinking of those who struggle every day as the state recovers from another natural disaster.

Theresa Madonna—candidate for State Senate in Connecticut’s 18th District—announced plans today for a “Rolling Rally” supporting Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.  The rally will make five stops throughout the district on Saturday November 3, 2012, collecting non-perishable food items at each location, which will then be donated to local food banks.
The caravan of cars will make its first stop at the Preston Plains School on the corner of Routes 2 and 164 in Preston at noon, where it will stay for a half hour.  From there, supporters will travel to the Stonington High School football game on Route 1 in Pawcatuck from 1:15pm until kickoff.  Theresa will then arrive at Washington Park in the City of Groton at 2:15pm and Poquonnock Plains Park at 3pm, before ending up at the Groton Republican Town Committee Headquarters at 80 Plaza Court in Groton by 4pm. Madonna expressed excitement about continuing her campaign for the State Senate, while also helping people in need throughout the district that has been so heavily affected by the recent storm.  She said, “I decided to run for the State Senate to help local families get through tough times, and this is one of the most difficult situations many people around here have ever been a part of, so my job starts now.  I encourage people who will be at events along our rally route to bring goods with them to donate to the cause.

I'm disappointed with the new format. Doesn't seem to be very user friendly.
