Greater New Haven Kicks Off Red Kettle Campaign - Donations and Angel Tree Help Needed

NEW HAVEN – The Salvation Army in Greater New Haven just kicked off this year’s Red Kettle Campaign on AM 1220 WQUN, with Major Dean Satterlee, New Haven Corps Officer, being interviewed by his Advisory Board Chairperson, Ray Andrewsen. As area need continues locally, The Salvation Army needs donations at its kettles throughout Greater New Haven and help in buying presents through its Angel Tree program. For the latter, there are still 400 Angel Tree tags that need to be claimed.

The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program provides holiday gifts for children who have been registered by their parents, which is part of The Salvation Army’s Christmas Assistance program. Each tag has a child’s first name, clothing sizes, and toy preferences. Tag holders then purchase an outfit of new clothes and some toys for that child. To help these children, anyone can select Angel Tree tags from The Salvation Army’s 450 George Street, New Haven, Connecticut, location, or by calling (203) 376-2123. Purchased items can be returned to the same location and pickup is available should a group or organization decide to take multiple tags.

"This time of the year, people see The Salvation Army wearing our public face, reminding everyone that we answer the needs of families who require food, shelter, and clothing year-round. We see tears in the eyes of many when they know that their kids will have a merry Christmas in spite of tough family circumstances, also feeling safe knowing they will receive gift cards to ensure a wholesome meal. The need is not going anywhere either. Just this past Thanksgiving, we provided over 175 more families than last year with a holiday meal. You can be assured every donation and volunteer who selects an Angel Tree tag is truly helping those in need," commented Major Satterlee.

As The Salvation Army adapts to changing needs, it also finds new ways to accept support. “As you may see at some of our kettles this year, individuals also have the opportunity to give online, using their mobile devices. You can help us meet needs in Greater New Haven year-round by donating to our Online Red Kettle at www.onlineredkettle.org/NewHavenCT or text TSANH to 41444 to donate $10.”
