ACES Appoints Math, English Language Arts Curriculum Coordinators

ACES — the regional educational service center for 25 school districts in south central Connecticut — named Anne Pember as its Math Coordinator and Joanna Dorne as its English Language Arts Coordinator.

ACES is pleased to announce the appointments of Anne Pember as Math Coordinator and Joanna Dorne as English Language Arts Coordinator.

ACES newly appointed Math Coordinator Anne Pember has been with ACES since 2007. Prior to her appointment, Ms. Pember was a math teacher at ACES Thomas Edison Middle School. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut, a Master’s degree in Education – Secondary Education Mathematics & Business from the University of New Haven. She also earned a Master’s degree in Financial Management from Fairfield University. Ms. Pember is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education degree from Southern Connecticut State University. Ms. Pember’s professional affiliations include ACES Math Council, ACES Curriculum Council, Connecticut Council of Leaders of Mathematics and ACES Professional Development Committee. Additionally, she has been an instructor in ACES interdisciplinary program, Math Does Count.  Ms. Pember’s math teaching experience is complemented by her professional background in finance and accounting. Ms. Pember was appointed to her new position in February 2014.

ACES newly appointed English Language Arts Coordinator Joanna Dorne has been with ACES since 1998. Prior to her appointment, Ms. Dorne was a special education teacher at ACES Mill Road School. She has experience in both English Language Arts and Special Education. While at Mill Road School, Ms. Dorne coordinated and facilitated professional development activities which included Writing IEP Goals for the Common Core. Ms. Dorne is a graduate of Quinnipiac University where she obtained her 6th Year Diploma in Educational Leadership, and Southern Connecticut State University where she received her Master’s degree in Remedial Reading and Bachelor’s degree in Special Education. Ms. Dorne’s professional affiliations include ACES Language Arts Council, and ACES Curriculum Council. Ms. Dorne was appointed to her position in April 2014.

“The newly appointed Math and English Language Arts Coordinators will provide support to all of ACES schools. Both Ms. Pember and Ms. Dorne are dedicated educators with extensive experience in their respective fields. They both bring great depth and breadth of experience to their respective positions,” shared Erika P. Forte, ACES Assistant Executive Director for Curriculum and Programs. Dr. Craig W. Edmondson shared Ms. Forte’s enthusiasm and stated, “We are delighted with the appointments of Anne Pember and Joanna Dorne, and are confident that they will help to strengthen ACES teaching and learning initiatives.”
