New Haven's Au Bon Pain Restaurant Closes Unexpectedly

The restaurant closed today, meaning 25 workers have lost their job.

Au Bon Pain, a popular restaurant in downtown New Haven, closed unexpectedly this afternoon, meaning 25 people have lost their jobs.

The restaurant closed at 2 this afternoon, with no real reason given, according to the New Haven Register. The 25 people who work at the restaurant have been laid off, according to the Register.

“Yale doesn’t want us here anymore," said a man who called himself the manager of the restaurant, according to the New Haven Register. Yale University owns the Broadway Street building the restaurant is located in.

Phone calls by the New Haven Register to Au Bon Pain's corporate headquarters were not returned. There are four other Au Bon Pain restaurants in Connecticut, all located in the greater Hartford-area, according to the company's website.

The restaurant served sandwiches, salads, wraps and soups. It also had a breakfast menu.
