Local Threads Cool Enough For a Teen

East Haven sells clothes a young person can fill a closet with.

(Olivia Falco is an East Haven High School student-intern for Patch.)

After spending a recent afternoon shopping around town, I learned that everything I need for my wardrobe can be found right here in East Haven.

First stop: TJ Maxx, 68 Frontage Road

I walk in to see rows of designer purses on my left, shoes straight ahead and clothes galore to my right. I visit the junior's department first. A black-and-white, plaid winter coat catches my eye. It has a belt to synch you right above your waist. A beautiful jacket and only $29.99! I recognize some popular brands like Express, American Eagle and Michael Kors.

I venture to the shoe department where I find a pair of black suede Jessica Simpson heels. These would be perfect for the dance and any event after that. They were only $24.99.

Second stop: The Dancer's Boutique, 224 Main St.

This is the only independently owned shop amid all the chains. I've lived in East Haven all my life and have never been there. This specialty store sells dancewear, aerobic wear and active wear. It is definitely a good place to shop if you are athletic.

Third stop: EbLens, 684 Foxon Road

I should have brought my guy friends here. They have a big selection of men's clothing. What they had in junior's was a lot of loungewear. Now I've got my gym clothes for the rest of the year.

Fourth stop: Payhalf, 713 Foxon Road

I find a white, loose-fitted top that sparks my interest. It has embroidered flowers lining the top. A pair of black leggings go great with this top -- and only $5!

Fifth stop: Fashion Bug, 723 Foxon Road

Fashion Bug is my last stop of the day and a quick one. I should have brought my mom here. There was a very small junior's section but a large misses section.

Summing it up

I got some good items. And now I know which stores to go back to and which ones not to!
