It's Official: Upscale East Haven Coffee Shop to Open Soon

A new independent coffee cafe — with outdoor seating, iPad stations and wireless internet — is slated to open up this spring in the Trolley Square Plaza.

East Haven residents will soon have a new spot in town to share a good cup of coffee with a friend, get a bit of work done on their laptop or sit outside in the warmer weather enjoying a fresh frozen yogurt.

After months of planning and negotiations the rental agreement to secure and lease out the now vacant 1,635-square-foot space next to the U.S. Post Office in the Trolley Square Plaza for the coffee shop has just been signed.

'It's A Go'

Richard Cordeiro, a Guilford resident who is opening the new cafe along with a business partner, called East Haven Patch on Monday to report the good news.

'It's a go," Cordeiro said of the project.

He added that he had just put up the "Coming Soon" sign at the spot.

Spring Opening Date

With the lease now signed, Cordeiro said the focus will now shift to getting the work done to convert the space into the cafe.

That is expected to kick off soon, but will still take some eight to nine weeks to complete, he said.

"We're looking at the beginning of April, maybe the 1st to the 15th, in there, for opening," he told East Haven Patch.

Coffee, Yogurt & iPads

The shop will not only feature quality coffee drinks, but also a self-serve area for frozen yogurt.

The plans for the cafe include an area for outdoor seating on the street side of the building and state-of-the-art wireless internet access — as well as iPads mounted into some of the shop's counter tops.

And Cordeiro has said he also plans to offer discounts to senior citizens, as well.

This buisness idea ..... Amazing! Deciding to open this buisness in EH.....Poor. This will be the new EH reen center, which will drive away good people. I give 90 days before one of EHs upstanding youths finds a way to boost an iPad.

I wish them good luck, although a coffe shop is not for me. Nothing beats my dad's coffee...with DD running second. Don't care for starbucks either..., but best of luck anyway!

I wish them the best of luck. But I do have to agree with one thing that Oxy said - that there is a chance the teens that hang around the entire Trolley Square will end up driving customers away. EHPD has to do something about this. I can't tell you how many times I've almost hit a kid on a bike darting off the sidewalk across the road.

Is anyone else scared that ...."plans for the cafe include an area for outdoor seating on the street side of the building".....if I'm correct the storefront they will be taking is on the Hemmingway Ave side of the street. I've seen the way people drive in that area. I think you'd be taking your life in your own hands sitting out there. You might as well have a big piece of whatever else they serve there, as it may be your last!

This is great for Main Street in East Haven! Was so sad to Sweet Shop close! Let's support this business so it stays in business and maybe attract other business's of this type! Would love to see Main St. buzzing as it does in other towns.

Wow the negativity I see on this is appalling. I for one will be there and support this new endeavor. I can also say with certainty that quite a few people in this town have been hoping for quality storefronts such as this to open. It really is time to put away all the negativity and contempt that is so apparent on this and every other media outlet having to do with our town and start acting like civilized human beings who want to live, work, and be part of the community.

Not into coffee that much, but good luck to them. To Oxymoron; there are plenty of nice people in EH, including myself. If you don't like the people, you can always go somewhere else.

I'll give them a try. Good luck with your new venture. I do wish Mr C's was still in business.

So nice to see more "upscale" places opening in E. Haven. Maybe if more did open, the "undesirables" would leave? One can only hope! With being right next to Branford/N. Branford, it would be nice to have people WANT to stay in E. Haven...good luck!

I will welcome this new business to town. However, I would prefer the seating to be on the parking lot side of the building. As far as the kids on bikes and skateboards, if we had a place in town for them to go, they wouldn't be hanging out in the shopping center. This is what kids are supposed to do- hang with their friends and ride bikes and skateboards.

Oxy.....All I have to say it is negativity like yours that brings a town down. Those teens on their bikes actually helped me the other day asking if they could do anything to help. When you show respect to people young or old you get it back in return. I lived in East Haven for 11 years before my cottage was flooded and found there to be real good hard working people living here. Stop hatinyg and start contributing positively to the place you live. Signed New Owner.

Great little place to stop by and have a beverage...hot or cold. I was in the area and noticed they were open and tried their red velvet frappachino and it was a delicious treat! Going to stop in on the way to work to pick up my morning coffee next!
