Hobby Lobby: New East Haven Store to Open In Early 2013

Renovation is now underway on the 43,800 square-foot building — formerly occupied by Home Goods — in the TJ Maxx shopping center along Frontage Road in East Haven.

Hobby Lobby Stores, a privately held national retail chain of arts and crafts stores, hits another milestone with the signing of a lease to open a store in East Haven, making this location its first entry in the state of Connecticut.

Renovation is underway on this 43,800 square-foot building, formerly occupied by Home Goods, located at Frontage Road and I-95 Turnpike in the TJ Maxx shopping center.

Hobby Lobby is projected to open in the first quarter of 2013. The location will bring about 35 – 50 jobs to the community paying $13 per hour for full time, and $9 per hour for part-time associates.

“East Haven is centrally located, and easily accessible within an hour’s drive west to the Connecticut / New York border on the I-95 Turnpike, and just 40 miles north to Hartford on I-91. This makes it the perfect localityfor Hobby Lobby to open its first store in the state, and we are very excited to be part ofthis community as we continue to establish ourselves in the New England States,” stated John Schumacher, Assistant Vice President of Advertising.

Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., headquartered in Oklahoma City, OK, started as an outgrowth of Greco Products, a miniature picture frames company founded in a garage by David Green in 1970.

Today, Hobby Lobby has over 520 stores across the nation that average 55,000 square feet in size. This major Oklahoma City-based private corporation offers more than 65,000 crafting and home decor products in its stores.

Departments include floral, fabric, needle art, custom framing, baskets, home accents, wearable art, arts and crafts, and jewelry, scrapbooking and paper crafting supplies. Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and all Hobby Lobby stores are closed on Sunday.
