East Haven's Beachhead Restaurant Reopens

The restaurant, described by many as a town icon, has reopened after being devestated by Superstorm Sandy.

Even Superstorm Sandy couldn't knock out Beachhead Restaurant.

The East Haven restaurant, which has existed for 71 years, reopened on Tuesday, according to the Shoreline Times. The restaurant was closed since October of 2012 after it was devastated by both Tropical Storm Irene and Superstorm Sandy, according to the Times.

Restaurant co-owner Barbara Bucci said it took about $200,000 to repair the restaurant after it was flooded during Superstorm Sandy, according to the Times. The restaurant was damaged during Tropical Storm Irene as well, although not as bad, according to the Times.

“We’ve owned this restaurant (since) 1995 and never have we before seen anything close to this happening,” Bucci said about the back-to-back storms, according to the Shoreline Times. “People thought for sure we’d just give up."
