East Haven Unemployment Shoots to 10.2%

East Haven joined the 22 other municipalities throughout the state that now have double-digit unemployment numbers.

East Haven's unemployment rate grew by a full percentage point in July bringing the number of laborers in town unable to find work to more than 10 percent.

According to the latest figures released by the Connecticut Department of Labor, the East Haven's unemployment is at 10.2 percent.

Additionally, the department's figures also showed the labor force in East Haven dropped slightly over the same period: from 16,894 in June to 16,857 in July.

In Connecticut, the pool of jobless people last month rose to 9.2 percent overall.

East Haven's unemployment rate reached its , rose to , was , 8.6 percent in February and 8.7 percent in January. And the town's rate was .

In 2008 East Haven’s annual unemployment rate was 6.3 percent. In 2007 it was 5.0 percent.

The town's highest reported unemployment rate over the last two years was in February 2011, when 10.5 percent of East Haven was out of work.
