East Haven Unemployment Jumps to 9.2 Percent

The number of unemployed residents in town is now at its highest level of the year and well above the state average.

After dropping to , East Haven's unemployment rate is now at its highest point of the year.

According to the latest figures released by the Connecticut Department of Labor, the town’s unemployment for June was 9.2 percent.

Additionally, the department's figures also showed the labor force grew slightly in East Haven from last month: from 1,464 in May to 1,552 in June.

Statewide, the pool of jobless workers also rose to 8.4 percent, from 8.0 percent in May.

East Haven's unemployment was , a slightly lower , 8.6 percent in February and 8.7 percent in January.

In 2008 East Haven’s annual unemployment rate was 6.3 percent. In 2007 it was 5.0 percent.

The town's highest reported unemployment rate over the last two years was in February 2011, when 10.5 percent of East Haven was out of work.
