East Haven's Unemployment Rate Drops Again

The town's unemployment rate now sits at its lowest point since April 2009.

The unemployment rate in continues to decline, and December saw the lowest unemployment rate since Dec. 2009.

According to the latest figures released by the Connecticut Department of labor, the town ’s unemployment is at 8.4 percent  — or 1,350 people.

In Connecticut, the pool of jobless people declined slightly to 8.2 percent. , East Haven's rate was at 8.6 percent.

“After a disappointing performance in the third quarter of 2011, it appears that Connecticut’s labor market has returned to a modest pace towards recovery,” said Andy Condon, director of the Office of Research, in a statement. “Our declining unemployment rate is particularly good news. However, forecasts for job growth in 2012 remain cautious and uncertain with most analysts predicting levels much like what we saw this past year.”

In 2008 East Haven’s annual unemployment rate was 6.3 percent. In 2007 it was 5.0 percent.

The town's highest reported unemployment rate over the last two years was in February 2011, when 10.5 percent of East Haven was out of work.
