Family Open House at Neighborhood Music School

Neighborhood Music School (NMS) invites individuals and families throughout the Greater New Haven region to join in an afternoon of music, dance and drama at its bi-annual Open House.

The free event will include opportunities to observe and participate in music, dance and early childhood activities, including an "instrument petting zoo", mini private lessons and group demonstration classes.

The afternoon will also feature a special musical performance by the Haven String Quartet, presenting two favorite children's stories -- "Giraffes Can't Dance" by Giles Andreae and "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss -- with music composed by NMS faculty member Netta Hadari. This performance is at 1:45 p.m. in the NMS Recital Hall.

Attendees who are interested in studying at NMS can participate in free 15 minute "mini lessons" on a wide variety of instruments including strings, winds and percussion. The "instrument petting zoo" will give younger children a hands-on introduction to many popular instruments. Participants of all ages can also sample some of the school's broad range of music, dance, and early childhood classes or get information about the Preschool at NMS or our summer programs, including the ever-popular Audubon Arts and Summer Band, Summer Winds and Summer Jazz camps. Faculty and program staff will be on hand to answer questions and help individuals decide what type of instruction or class would be best suited for their child's interests or their own. Financial Aid information will be available as well.

The Open House is an ideal opportunity to obtain information and register for any of the programs noted above. For more information and a schedule of events, please call Neighborhood Music School at 203-624-5189 or visit www.neighborhoodmusicschool.org.
