East Haven Fireworks Display to be Bigger Than Ever

Fireworks to be held Saturday, June 28

Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 484 and Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. have announced that this year’s 14th Annual Fireworks/Beach Party celebration will be the largest pyrotechnic display in its history.

Due to the tremendously generous response of the greater East Haven business community, including the addition of two new Platinum sponsors, the Fireworks Planning Committee has been able to increase the size of the show for the second year in a row. The additional Platinum Sponsors are Stop & Shop Companies and the McDermott Auto Group

As was previously announced this year’s Independence Day Celebration will also feature what is billed as ‘The Ultimate Bon Jovi Tribute Band’, “Bon Jersey”. This year’s event will take place on Saturday June 28th.  The festivities will once again include another fun-filled day of food, music and live entertainment, which will begin at 12 noon and continue right up to launch time (approximately 9 pm). The rain date, which will be fireworks only, will be Monday June 30th.

Through the generosity of PMA Companies, the VVA and the Town will be presenting “Bon Jersey” beginning approximately at 7:30 pm, leading right up to this year’s Fireworks show.

In addition to musical performances which will begin at noon (see attached schedule), WPLR-FM 99.1 will be on the town beach adding to the entertainment.

A limited number of food vendors and concessionaires will be in the immediate area. Food will also be available from the Sandpiper and the newly re-opened Beachhead Restaurant, both of which are located on Cosey Beach Avenue.

As a reminder, street access to the beach will be limited beginning at 10 am.  Cosey Beach Avenue will be closed from the intersection of Second Avenue to Philips Street.  Similarly, Coe Avenue will be closed from the Bradford Street intersection to the beach.  The East Haven Police Department will be posting notices and directing motorists in and around the general vicinity of the town beach.

Although the fireworks are presented in a cooperative effort with the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 484 and the Town of East Haven, the majority of funding is obtained from private businesses and some personal donations.
