The , 227 Main Street in East Haven, will celebrate National Poetry Month on Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m., with a special program featuring local author and poet Jason Marchi.
During the talk, Marchi will read from his published book of poetry "Ode on a Martian Urn."
Five of the poems won placement in magazine-sponsored contests. The book was also recognized in the 19th Annual Writer's Digest Book Awards.
Bradbury An Inspiration
After Jason’s first professional sale of a poem in 1988, he knew that someday he wanted to collect his work under a single title, and he also knew that he wanted artwork to accompany his poems.
Celebrated science-fiction/fantasy writer Ray Bradbury, Marchi’s friend and mentor, inspired him to seek out an artist to illustrate the book.
The Guildford author will have copies of "Ode on a Martian Urn" available for sale following the reading.
'Hobbomock'
In addition, Marchi will be debuting his recently published children’s book, "The Legend of Hobbomock: The Sleeping Giant" at the library on Saturday, May 12 at 2 p.m.
It is a picture storybook for young readers and adults who love illustrated books and Native American lore.
