UPDATE at 6 p.m.

The snow may be done with the shoreline, but Father Winter continues to flex his frozen muscles.

Temperatures in East Haven are expected to plummet tonight to as low as 10 degrees below zero, according to a special weather statement from the National Weather Service.

The meteorologists report that today's blustery winds will diminish overnight, reducing down to about 5 miles per hour. This, however, is still enough to amplify the region's already bitter temperatures.

"Wind chills below zero could lead to frostbite or hypothermia for anyone exposed to the cold," the weather service warns.

On Saturday, temperatures will climb back into the 20s, but it will still feel like below zero with the wind chill.

The weekend forecast for East Haven is as follows:

Saturday Night - Partly cloudy and not as cool. Near steady temperature in the mid 20s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday - Partly sunny with a slight chance of light freezing rain in the morning...then cloudy with a chance of rain in the afternoon. Not as cool with highs in the lower 40s. Southwest winds around 5 mph...becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 50 percent.

Sunday Night - Rain. Not as cool with lows in the lower 40s. East winds 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent.

UPDATE at 8:30 a.m. on FRIDAY

The East Haven Mayor's officer reports all town offices will reopen today at 9:30 a.m.

And a snow-related parking ban will remain in effect until tomorrow at noon.

UPDATE at 5:55 p.m.

Upon an order from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, the State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was partially opened at 4 p.m. today.

UPDATE at 5:25 p.m. Thursday

Due the approaching winter storm, East Haven Public School officials have cancelled classes for tomorrow, Jan. 3

UPDATE at 7:10 p.m.

With the first big winter storm apparently on its way, now seems like a good time to remind residents of the town's winter parking rules and snow regulations

The holiday season may be over — but winter itself still has several weeks of snow, ice and frigid temps up its sleeve for those of us living here along the shoreline.

Case in point: The National Weather Service has just issued a winter storm warning for East Haven, as well as much of the rest of the region.

The warning goes into effect tomorrow morning at 4 a.m. and continues through to early Friday afternoon.

Thursday Night Into Friday Afternoon

During that time, the shoreline region will receive a total accumulation of some 6 to 10 inches of snow.

"One to two inches are forecast through the Thursday morning rush hour followed by a lull," the NWS meteorologists state in their report. "The most significant period of snow will redevelop by Thursday evening and continue into Friday morning."

'Near Blizzard Conditions'

During that time period, the coming storm is expected to deliver "near blizzard conditions" — with wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour blowing and drifting the heavy snow about, creating hazardous driving conditions.

Frigid air moving in with the storm will have an impact over the next 36 hours.

"Wind chills from 5 degrees below 0 to 15 degrees below 0 Thursday night through Friday, will produce extremely cold conditions," the meteorologists state in their report.

Extended Forecast

The upcoming forecast for East Haven is as follows:

Dave, Yes North of Rte 80 is the Third District,South of Rte 80 is the 5th District. I encourage you to copy and paste this link: http://foxct.com/2013/08/20/town-council-candidates-sexual-comments-questioned/ At the same time I ask that you keep in mind that the items referred to in the story are almost 2 years old at this point in time and a full apology was given when the story aired.. If you would like to know more about my accomplishments just ask. I find it interesting that some people hiding behind false screen names are quick to point out my faults but not so quick to mention what they have or haven't accomplished for our community. Here is a short video on what I have accomplished in 6 years and you will see that it goes beyond "giving blood" I've actually donated 2 gallons of blood to help residents in need. http://youtu.be/ng_7wPKX3_g Dave,Should you have any questions I will be happy to answer them for you.

Judging by your name on here, you are running for the DTC? Which district are you in?
Joanne January 03, 2014 at 09:17 AM
As Imus would say....SHUT UP!!!!!
Richard Poulton January 03, 2014 at 09:57 AM
Hoff forgot to mention one thing in his list of greatness. His true thoughts towards and feelings towards women who don't agree with him.
Richard Poulton January 03, 2014 at 10:47 AM
My comment wasn't directed to Dave, it was in general to all readers to remind them of your true character. Yes, you are correct, a CARD CARRYING REPUBLICAN. Though I was never issued a "card". Question to other republicans out there, did any body get a "card" or is Hoff off his med's again?
Robert D. Hoff January 03, 2014 at 10:50 AM
Dave,Yes you are correct the Third district
Robert D. Hoff January 03, 2014 at 11:16 AM
Richard, So glad you answered my question because according to the Urban Dictionary:1. card-carrying member Anyone who uses the reputation of an organization they belong to in order to try to further their career/social advancement, and use it as a pedestal to look down on others who aren't a member of said organization. Instead of carrying the values of the organization, they attempt to let the values of the organization carry them, usually to their detriment.
mccann is the man January 03, 2014 at 12:20 PM
One's true character shines through when challenged. Read this story and you will see the real Mr Hoff. http://easthaven.patch.com/groups/opinion/p/mr-hoff-stop-trying-to-garner-sympathy-and-votes-with-your-disabilities
mccann is the man January 03, 2014 at 12:23 PM
Read this one too where Mr Hoff used another posters name (allegedly) to entertain us here on patch. http://easthaven.patch.com/groups/opinion/p/devin-kacey-stop-pretending
Dave Knowall January 03, 2014 at 12:38 PM
Robert, can I just vote for you or do I have to vote for everyone?
Robert D. Hoff January 03, 2014 at 01:03 PM
Dave, As far as I know you can vote for one person or as many as would like. This is a Democracy I won't demand you vote for me and against someone else but I would like your support.
Richard Poulton January 03, 2014 at 03:41 PM
Sorry it took so long for me to respond back Bobby, but I was removing snow from some of my elderly neighbors driveways. Question, what card do you carry? FYI, you are the only one here on the Patch that continually uses a pedestal. OH I'm sorry, you don't use that, you use the soap box. Gee, now remind me again what party is in the mayors office?
Dave Knowall January 03, 2014 at 04:32 PM
Robert, since I don't know anyone else in that district that is running, I will ask you, do you want me to vote for you or not? I have no idea how this process goes and furthermore I am not going to just vote for people I don't know.
Beth January 03, 2014 at 05:08 PM
Mr knowall...note the Hoff story with Fox news..., he apologized for the comments and getting caught but never once apologized to the woman he insulted! Vote for anyone BUT Hoff!
clint eastwood January 03, 2014 at 06:34 PM
What can we do as a community to encourage Robert D. Hoff to move back to the NY/Canadian Border?
RockosHoffmeister January 03, 2014 at 07:01 PM
Clint he will never leave as long as Gene and Frank call him and tell him what to post here. Rocko told me so!
Robert D. Hoff January 03, 2014 at 08:17 PM
Dave, Yes, I would like you to vote for me. The choice to vote for me or not however,is yours to make. The process takes place Thursday night at 7 Pm at the East Haven Senior Center. Those who show up to vote for the Third district candidates for the East Haven Haven Democratic Town Committee will be to the best of my knowledge be given a ballot with the candidates names on it the winners will be determined by those who get those most votes so that the process can be completed as democratically as possible. This is the last I will post on this issue here;however,Dave you may feel free to send me a friend request on Facebook and we can continue our conversation if you wish. I may be reached at http://facebook.com/robert.d.hoff
Dave Knowall January 03, 2014 at 08:50 PM
Robert, I do have one more question. I would ask that you answer it so I can make an informed decision. It'll be my last question. How many spots are there in district three and how many people are running?
Robert D. Hoff January 03, 2014 at 09:28 PM
Dave, To answer your question each district is comprised of 13 members that make up the district for the Democratic Town Committee. As for the amount of people running at this point I am unsure of exact numbers due to changes being brought about due to the fracturing of the party as a result of the recent Primary. The Chairmanship is up for election as well and it is hard to give an exact answer on how many people will step forward to fill the 13 seats or how many members may leave as a result of the primary.
Richard Poulton January 04, 2014 at 08:22 AM
I have solved the DTC problems. They are in need of a chairman, one well known by the party, respected and is a GREAT community leader and volunteer, one people can follow in his shadow. This man folks is the one and only Robert D. Hoff. He can pull the party together. Only kidding. But just think about it.
mccann is the man January 04, 2014 at 10:30 AM
Richard, I see two problems with your plan. 1) the chairman sits on the stage at sr center. I don't believe the stage is handicap accessable (no ramp) similar to gazebo on green. 2) The chairman welds a gavel to run meetings. He couldn't do that since both hands are occupied patting himself on the back.
Dave Knowall January 04, 2014 at 01:21 PM
Robert, I looked at the links posted above after seeing all that, I cannot support you for town committee. Why would you ever make such nasty comments? And then why would you promote the Fox61 video about yourself? That's bad publicity. But anyway, I refuse to support someone who insults women the way you did and someone who self-promotes themself during charity events.
Robert D. Hoff January 04, 2014 at 06:43 PM
Dave, That's Ok,..Thanks for reading by the way I checked the Voter registration and Registered Democratic Voters who voted in the Primary and your name is not on those lists. Have a great day.
Dave Knowall January 04, 2014 at 07:00 PM
My name isn't on the list because, as stated in past comments, I just recently moved to the area. You can try to play a game of wits Robert but I promise, I am a very well-educated individual. Your sarcasm is not needed since all I did was say why I could not vote for you. If you can't handle a little criticism maybe you should not be in politics.
mccann is the man January 04, 2014 at 07:07 PM
Hey Hoff we all remember someone else that wasn't on the voter list in East Haven. Mr Charles Johnson the one that wrote a letter to register and courier endorsing you for town council. Here is a link to the story to refresh your memory in case you've had seizures lately confusing your memory. http://easthaven.patch.com/groups/opinion/p/looking-for-mr-charles-johnson
James January 08, 2014 at 08:34 AM
Robert once more you let Mccann and or ? gang sucker you in Why do you interact with them at all is beyond me. At this point all they do is bring up the same old trash and once again you jump in with both feet
James January 08, 2014 at 08:48 AM
Do you have to be a registered voter in East Haven to support a candidate if not why are you so concerned where Charles lives Once again wasted my time with this Have a good Day
