The official start of winter is still several days away, but Mother Nature has decided she'd rather not wait for the exact date.

The season's first winter storm warning for East Haven, as well as much of the region, goes into effect at 6 a.m. Saturday morning. It will continue until 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

During that time, the shoreline region will receive some 4 to 8 inches of snow.

Hazardous Travel

The heaviest snowfall with Saturday's storm is expected to occur in the late afternoon into the evening.

The snow will then change into sleet and freezing rain during the overnight hours as temperatures rise from the lower 20s into the 30s.

The storm's snow and ice are expected to make travel very difficult throughout the day Saturday.
