Storm Damage Doesn't Damper East Haven Family's Halloween Spirit

Geremiah Wheeler said he is thankful no one was hurt after tree falls on family home during Saturday's Nor'easter.

Geremiah Wheeler spent Monday afternoon focused on two things: carefully layering his homemade lasagna (made with his homemade sauce), and clearing away the branches and boughs from the tree in his yard that split in half — falling atop his Thomas Lane home — during Saturday's storm.

"I'm doing it myself," Wheeler told Patch, as he stood in his kitchen preparing two giant pans of his deep dish comfort food. "Well, after I finish this lasagna."

Wheeler said the tree came down on the house in the middle of the storm late Saturday afternoon.

Although the family was home at the time, Geremiah and his wife Sarah have four children — ; Gavin and Chase, 6; and Rhys, 18 months — the damage to the family home was minor and thankfully no one was hurt.

"We didn't even lose power," Wheeler said. "We were fortunate."

Wheeler pointed out that several trees were also downed elsewhere in the neighborhood. In fact, one of the family's neighbors had two trees in their yard snap and fall on the house.

"As soon as that wet snow started to sit, the trees began to snap," he said.

But again, luckily, no one was injured and no one had catastrophic damage to their homes.

When asked if the storm and the property damage to their house would hamper the family's Halloween fun Monday night, Wheeler said absolutely: "No."

"There is no way my kids would let me skip that," he said with a smile.
