Tropical Storm Andrea Could Bring Heavy Rains, Possible Flooding

Storm could bring thunderstorms and lots of rain to the area over the weekend.

The hurricane season started last Saturday and already the first storm has formed, the National Weather Service said Wednesday.

Tropical Storm Andrea was identified as having formed in the Gulf of Mexico, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

The storm is expected bring heavy rain to Florida Thursday before moving up the Eastern Seaboard Friday and Saturday, bringing some wind, heavy rain and the  potential for flooding and high surf.      

Here's the weekend National Weather Service forecast for East Haven:

Friday:  Rain - heavy at times. High near 66 degrees. East wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible

Friday Night:   Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 59 degrees. Northeast wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible

Saturday:  A chance of showers, mainly before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%

Saturday Night:  A slight chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
