East Haven's '2013 People of the Year'

A concerned parent of an East Haven middle school student and a dedicated community volunteer are among those honored by readers' nominations this year.

We asked you, our readers, to submit nominations for East Haven Patch’s 2013 People of the Year.

Below you’ll find the individuals most-nominated for recognition as People of the Year, as well as some words about what makes them such an important part of the community.

Thanks to everyone who participated and all the people who work to make East Haven a better place.

From Flowers: "I nominate Angelo Appi, a man who saw risk for our town children and did something about , then stood his ground. A worthy candidate for man of the year." (The breach of peace charges against Appi were recently dismissed by a judge in the Superior Court in New Haven.)

From cheryl: I nominate Shawn Hopkinson, "he is an inspiration and an asset to our town, he steps up to the task at hand before being asked, when he sees a need he finds a way to fulfill it, shawn is def the person of the year for 2013."

  • From Heather Fitzgerald Izzo: "I nominate my 9 year old daughter who has done several fundrasing in the town & made a big difference in 2013 & will keep going for 2014. From raising money for the plane crash families, to performing several fundraisers for the East haven food pantry, also fundraising for Make a Wish & Where the love is dog rescue. At such a young age she loves helping. Her community & the less fortunate."
