East Haven Candlelight Vigil to Honor Newtown Shooting Victims

The leaders of St. Vincent de Paul and the Old Stone Church will hold a joint candlelight vigil Saturday in East Haven to honor the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

East Haven's clergy community is banding together to hold a candlelight vigil Saturday evening to honor those who lost their lives during the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting Friday.

The Rev. Tom Sievel from St. Vincent de Paul Church and Pastor Karen Johnson of the Old Stone Congregational Church are organizing the East Haven vigil.

The vigil will be held in Margaret Tucker Park, which is the small park in front of Old Stone Church, at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Johnson told East Haven Patch Thursday afternoon that the event is still in the planning stages, and so other area clergy members may also be involved in the vigil.

She noted, however, that the ceremoney — which will be brief — has been organized to provide an opportunity for East Haven residents to come together and honor those who lost their lives during the tragic event.
