Freeze Warning Issued: Protect Your Plants

After an unseasonably warm weekend, the colder weather will be with us here on the shoreline for one more day — with temperatures expected to dip into the low 30s overnight and into the mid-morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for most the Connecticut shoreline from late Wednesday night through to 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

Protecting Plants, Flowers

Because of the unseasonably cold temperatures, the NWS is warning that sensitive plants may be at risk due to the frost. And so, if you're looking to protect your potted plants, you'll want to bring them indoors.

And any plants or flowers outdoors, you may want to cover with old blankets, sheets or burlap sacks. Drape the covering loosely and secure it with stakes, rocks or bricks, especially with the high winds forecasted for this evening.

But be sure to remove the covers once the sun comes out the following morning; otherwise, the plants may suffocate.

• Thursday - Patchy frost before 10am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 48. North wind around 14 mph becoming east in the afternoon.
• Thursday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 33. Northeast wind 10 to 13 mph.
• Friday - A slight chance of drizzle after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 49. Northeast wind 9 to 11 mph.
• Friday Night - A slight chance of drizzle. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 39. East wind 3 to 7 mph.
• Saturday - A slight chance of drizzle before noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 54.
• Saturday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 40.
• Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 56.
• Sunday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 40.
• Monday - Partly sunny, with a high near 62.
