Celebrate, Celebrate! EH Lions Club Rejoices in 10th Anniversary

Can you name some of the community projects that the East Haven Lions Club has either worked on or has been responsible for initiating and serving?

It's not all celebrating, but lots of community projects and hard work for the members of this club!

The 10th Anniversary Celebration of the East Haven Lions Club took place July 9 at the Beachhead Restaurant.  The club was chartered on September 28, 2003.  

In attendance to help celebrate this event was East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr.; Director of Operations and Management of ShopRite Arthur DeSorbo; and owners of the soon-to-open ShopRite on Route 80, Mr. & Mrs. Garafalo.

At this event, the prestigious 10 Year Charter Monarch Chevron Award from Lions Clubs International was presented to Barbara Bucci by the president of the East Haven Lions Club, Corinne Larsen.  

Lions Club International is comprised of some 1.35 million Lion members worldwide in approximately 46,000 clubs in 193 countries.

The commitment of the East Haven Lions Club is to serve the community.

Throughout the years, its members have worked on a variety of projects such as sponsoring a Biddy Basketball Team, Toys for Tots, receiving and distributing eyeglasses, Sight Saver Day, granting an Annual Scholarship Award of $500 to a East Haven High School senior, supporting the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, the East Haven Food Pantry, purchasing Items for the East Haven Senior Center and many, many other charitable benefits.  

For a second year, at the Latino Expo in the High School,  the Lions Club offered free eye screening and consultation by medical doctors from Yale New Haven Eye Department.

Membership in the East Haven Lions Club is always open.  The Club urges people to join and contribute to its humanitarian efforts.  The East Haven Lions club meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm at the Beachhead Restaurant.  For further details call 203-469-9302.
