East Haven High School Students Take Home Top Award for Film at 5th Annual Connecticut Student Film Festival

A group of students, both current students and alumni, from East Haven High School’s Media Club received the Connecticut Student Film Festival FIVE YEAR Anniversary Award for Outstanding Story for their 2010 film, Quest of a Commoner, at the 5th Annual Connecticut Student Film Festival, hosted by The Center for 21st Century Skills at EDUCATION CONNECTION. This “Oscars-like” event took place on Friday, April 26th at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, Connecticut. To view the film, visit http://youtu.be/RkpqmrV9vso. The Festival celebrated the yearlong work of middle and high school students who were engaged in a variety of innovative, cutting-edge film programs in Connecticut. Students from more than 30 schools submitted films, the majority of which were produced as part of the Connecticut Career Choices initiative Digital Media and Movie Making (DM3) program. Over 600 students from schools throughout the state attended the red carpet event, hoping to win awards in categories such as Outstanding Documentary, Outstanding Fictional, Audience Choice and Outstanding PSA. Select film submissions are shortlisted and judged by a panel of industry professionals and college faculty; all nominated films are shown and winners are announced at the CT Student Film Festival. The Connecticut Student Film Festival is the result of a collaborative effort among Connecticut businesses, government, K-12 education, higher education and not-for-profit organizations that support programs for Connecticut’s urban and suburban students and teachers.
