WEST HAVEN, CONN. --- Dr. Nicholas V. Perricone, world-renowned dermatologist, best-selling author and award-winning inventor of numerous skin care products, will speak at the University of New Haven, his alma mater, on Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. in Dodds Hall Theater.
The UNH Bartels Fellow for 2012, Perricone, an expert on anti-aging, will speak about “The Perricone Prescription for Health, Wealth and Happiness.”
Perricone’s talk is free and open to the public. However, attendees are asked to RSVP to JYale@newhaven.edu to reserve a seat. Parking on UNH’s Main Campus is limited; additional parking and a shuttle bus are available from the North Campus parking lot at Pruden and Chauncey Streets, a short distance from campus.
Perricone received a B.A. in English in 1970 from UNH and his medical degree from Michigan State University, where he is an adjunct professor.
He is the author of several New York Times bestsellers including “The Wrinkle Cure,” “The Perricone Prescription,” “The Perricone Promise” and, most recently, “Forever Young.”
Perricone’s initial quest to find ways to stop, prevent and reverse the negative effects of chronic and sub-clinical inflammation in his dermatology patients laid the foundation for Perricone MD Cosmeceuticals, based in Meriden, Conn., which he launched in 1998. The company introduced his formulations and immediately set a new industry standard for product efficacy with results that often rival more invasive and potentially risky dermatological procedures.
The cosmeuceuticals are often paired with a line of targeted supplements, known as
Perricone MD Nutriceuticals, which work collaboratively with the topicals to achieve visible results.
Perricone holds more than 116 U.S. and international patents for the treatment of damage to skin and systemic disease.
The author of numerous scientific articles, Perricone is a contributing editor to the
medical journal “Skin and Aging” and is a member of the editorial board of “Archives of Gerontology & Geriatrics.” He has contributed a chapter on antioxidants and aging for “Skin
Diseases in the Elderly,” a recent textbook written by scientists from Stanford University.
The recipient of the Eli Whitney Award presented by the Connecticut Intellectual Property Law Association to an outstanding individual who has made significant contributions to science, invention and technology, Perricone is certified by the American Board of Dermatology. He also is a fellow of the New York Academy of Sciences, the American College of Nutrition, the American Academy of Dermatology and the Society of Investigative Dermatology.
The Bartels Fellowship was established at UNH in 1989 through the generosity of Henry E. and Nancy H. Bartels. The fellowship brings individuals of national stature and prominence in the fields of business or public service to the UNH campus. Bartels Fellows visit classes, hold free-flowing discussions and deliver a formal address to the University community and guests.
