Eleven-year-old Elizabeth Saddig of Naugatuck, formerly of East Haven, has spearheaded a “Books for Sandy Hook” campaign and is collecting reading books for the Sandy Hook Elementary School students. New and “gently used” books for grades K through 4 will be delivered to the Sandy Hook students at Chalke School in Monroe right after the New Year.
A sixth-grade student, Elizabeth said she only wanted one thing this year for Christmas: for her community to help the community of neighboring Sandy Hook. She contacted and received support and encouragement from Naugatuck school superintendent John Tindall-Gibson, then permission from Naugatuck Mayor Robert Mezzo to set up a donation box in the lobby of the town hall next to the Sandy Hook angel from the Naugatuck High School students. A second donation box will be located at Stop & Shop in Naugatuck.
Elizabeth is the daughter of George and Kerry Cronan Saddig, formerly of East Haven and Madison.
