East Haven Memorial Day Ceremonies

East Haven will once again honor the nation and the town's war dead with a reflective Memorial Day ceremony on the Town Green.

The nation's official start of the summer season is now less than two weeks away: Memorial Day will take place this year on Monday, May 28. And the East Haven Veteran's Council, in conjunction with the Mayor's Office, said the town will continue the tradition of honoring the war dead with ceremonies of a reflective tone. "Once again we look forward to commemorating this solemn occasion in a manner in tune with the spirit of the day," Jack Stacey, chairman of the veterans committee, stated in a town press release. Special Police Commission Meeting Tuesday

The East Haven Board of Police Commissioners will meet tonight at the Town Beach House beginning at 7 p.m.

After cancelling last month's regularly scheduled meeting amid a dispute with the Mayor's Office over the use of former Town Attorney Patricia Cofrancesco as an independent counsel, the East Haven Board of Police Commissioners will hold a special meeting tonight. The meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m., will take place at the Town Beach House. The agenda is posted in the gallery that accompanies this article. Independent Counsel Cofrancesco — the town attorney under former Democratic Mayor April Capone — stepped down from her role as the board's attorney on May 8. Murphy Faces Primary in U.S. Senate Bid

Murphy may have won the nomination, but East Haven delegates voted unanimously for his soon-to-be primary challenger Susan Bysiewicz.

U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy of Cheshire received his party's nomination for the U.S. Senate at the Democratic State Convention on Saturday, according to CT News Junkie. However, all 13 of East Haven's delegates voted for his soon-to-be primary challenger: former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz. Statewide, the article notes, Murphy received 76 percent of the delegate vote compared to 24 percent for Bysiewicz.  Despite the 3-to-1 vote margin, the vote total for Bysiewicz was enough to force a primary in August between the two well-known politicians, the News Junkie article noted. Total vote numbers show Murphy got 1,378 of the delegate votes and Bysiewicz’s total was 444. New Haven, one of the largest delegations, gave 73 of its votes to …

BLUMENTHAL: West Hartford is the first community in Connecticut to receive approval from FEMA for reimbursement of clean-up costs in the wake of October's snowstorm, according to Patch. Blumenthal, Sen. Lieberman and First District Congressman John Larson, announced on Thursday that West Hartford will receive $5.5 million reimbursement from FEMA for debris removal.
