At the risk of arousing someone's wrath, and given that no one here has stated what the argument is Read Moreabout, I'll give it a try. The bill regarding selling drugs near a school, which carries additional penalties than just selling drugs, reduces the distance from a school that would invoke the added punishment. The argument for this is that since schools are much closer together in cities, the likelihood that a seller will incur these additional penalties is greater than if the sale took place in the suburbs where schools are farther apart. The fact that most of this urban drug dealing is done by minorities makes it more likely that there will be a racial disparity in punishment between minority drug dealers in cities and their white counterparts in the 'burbs. The knock-out game law penalties would result in the same kind of racial disparity in that the majority of kids engaging in this specific kind of assault are minority kids cold-cocking unsuspecting white people. The "truth" that Richard and Pete are talking about (I think) is that James Albis is that failing to pass the enhanced knock-out penalty fails to recognize the "hate crime" element of the game, where as if this was a white on black crime, there would be no argument as to the racial nature of the assault. Further, simply reducing the selling circle around a school in the city to reduce level of punishment for minority drug dealers does nothing to reduce the sale of drugs- it just reduces the penalty thereby ENCOURAGING the sale closer to schools. Does this make sense?

Equal pay for equal work does not mean that each person will always be making the exact same dollar Read Moreamount for the same job. There are many other factors that will change that. The pay scale should, however, be the same regardless of gender. I have worked in jobs where it was common knowledge that a woman starting with the same education, experience, etc. was offered considerably less than her male counterpart. That is wrong, no ifs, ands or buts! This kind of distortion of facts is what makes it too frustrating to try to have a discussion here.

Interesting! I did a three part story on this subject. Very interesting back & forthRead Morecommentar y. But as to the paving of the RSA's and borrowing $450,000 something doesn't add up. According to their own meeting minutes (Airport Authority) I found the cost of such was put on the record. They, again according to the minutes, need $400,000 plus dollars to first do an environmental study and after that they need 5.8 million to do what-ever is then required. This money was hopefully to come from the Government in the form of a Congressional earmark(aka Rosa and Blummie). Don't be fooled folks. As for Looney and the rest of the democrats surrounding NH politics they will never say no to this plan. Maybe paving will allow travel to better places then Philly, and who in Gods name would want to go to Detroit. Get me to Fla non-stop and we will talk. Good luck to the people living on the shoreline.

C.V., in a perfect world you are right. But when it comes to the 'wetland law" directions are Read Morespelled out. If you read the court decisons I mentioned you will see the various reasons commissions used in their denials, all thought to be valid reasons. Valid to them anyway. Courts were very specific in making the over-turnings. The denials MUST be proven by substantial evidence on the record that harm will be caused, not just possible harm or speculation of harm, or just a general concern of an impact. That's why I used the phrase between a rock and a hard place. To read what wetlands commissions are up against Google Chapter 440, Sections 22a-41, 22a-42, and 22a-42a of the CGS. Even better Google these: Avalon Bay Communities Inc v. Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Agency 130 Conn. App.69 (2011); River Bend Inc v. Conservation and Inland Wetlands Commissions, 269 Conn.57 (2004); and the latestoverturning found in Estate of Casimir Machowski v. Inland Wetlands Commission, 137 Conn.App.830, cert. denied 307 Conn. 921 (2012). This is what Commissions have to abide by. It is not a perfect world.

Just curious, why is it a poster can author something that spills pure hate towards people from aRead Morepo litical party they are at odds with, writes of possible criminal activity of sorts, demeans people in the administration they oppose and thats appears to be OK with people from the loosing party. But as soon as someone writes an opposing view they are attacked themselves. Now it appears there is a head-long attempt to ID a poster using a screen name other then their owm. Why is that? Who cares who is is? Other then people looking to bring personal attacks directly to this opposing person. Everyone has a right to an opinion not just those from one party or the other. Time to end this garbage.

Rich you didn't raise these questions when Capone was in office and Gene was found out to be JoseyRead MoreW ales? Now I hope who I've been told who CAJones is is really not the person suspected. Richard Poulton April 08, 2014 at 03:20 PM
If you remember correctly Dan, I was with you on that quest to see who Josey Wales was. RememberRead Moreth e e-mails I sent you about the comments being an implied threat? What is happening now is different. I don't recall any hate story's about April, at least I didn't author any. But when you do what you do, and someone comments back as is their right, they are attacked by those that defend you or still hold anger for losing the election. Who cares who CAJones is? Who cares who DBCooper is? These personal attacks need to stop. Don't like whats happening in EH, then November 2015 is not that far away. You mentioned healing instead of attacking, well you shouldn't you do the same. Don't you think it goes both ways. Or is it only you that can attack another person by writing a piece? Like I said, this has to stop.
CAjones April 06, 2014 at 02:24 PM
Dave thank you for your Reply to my last post. It certainly was evenhanded and consolatory. YouRead Moreind icated that you found it interesting when I used the phrase "one sided" because your post took no sides. Dave since this entire thread is a complaint about me, I guess I tend to be defensive when I read certain things. Like when you said "Small-minded opinionated, factless speech is both amusing and sad, especially when coming from an anonymous poster." I guess you were talking about someone else, being that you were not posting a derogatory statement against the person with whom this board speaks directly to, namely me. Sorry buddy, but that really sounded "one sided" to me. Now it makes me wonder, have you been following everything that has brought us to this point, or are you just jumping in uninformed and haphazardly. I've read plenty of your posts, many of them that I disagree with, as I find them dripping with liberalism. Regardless, the one thing that ties your posts to you personally, is that they are all carefully written and obviously the sentiment of a well spoken soul, and don't get me wrong, I have liberal friends whom I love and respect. That said, it's hard to imagine you're not as equally versed on the progression that brings us here. As to your statement regarding a debate where enlightened people don't need to make it personal, like calling someone a " village idiot" or "class clown", I agree. Once the first volley is thrown however, all bets are off. I pride myself as someone who can dish out as well as any "village idiot" and make no bones about it.
Dave Hausler April 06, 2014 at 03:58 PM
I read the thread in its entirety, and I know enough of the history on this Patch to know you wereRead Moreb eing singled out. Maria sees personal attacks on the Patch as a problem. She asked for suggestions on how to fix the problem. I believe it would be a great solution to be able to hide the comments of a poster...allows them to continue to post, allows the reader to ignore what they post automatically. Congratulations on your ability to return volley when threatened. Now, would you like to join me in doing some actual research into how our town operates so that we can debate something useful? A person with your level of energy to comment publicly must be able to apply some of it to something more than verbal pugilism.
DB Cooper April 06, 2014 at 09:51 PM

Richard Poulton April 06, 2014 at 09:22 AM
As to article topic, it would be nice if the public would attend the meetings of various boardsRead More&amp ; commissions. But here is one problem with that as I see it. As for the T/C and budgets issues currently under review, does the T/C actually take into consideration public comments one way or the other? We have a say, but thats about it. As for the public attending such as a P&Z hearing, yes they show but only when something effects a certain neighborhood. Why would someone living in Foxon even go if something is happening on the shoreline. It would be nice to get the public to attend, but not all hearings are open for public comment. The Police Union president was complianing about using headquarters for P/C meetings, and it should be returned to the Senior Center for the public can't use headquarters. Number one he is wrong. Number 2, how many people actually attend these meetings that would require a large capacity room? Let's take the wetlands commission hearings. The public has no say what so ever, can listen in but thats it. The meetings are classified as administrative in nature by the courts and public has no input - UNLESS the commission determines having one falls within meeting one or more of three condictions. Then a PUBLIC HEARING is held. So why would the public even attand a simple meeting? But like Ed mentions, can't even get the public, the tax payers in town that pay the bills, to show up at a very important meeting such as the State of the Town recently held. Could it be they just don't care, or feel they have no say in anything, or their lives are just to busy to go? As for the budget, maye EH should go the route as other municipalities, budget goes to a vote by the public. Some towns actually vote on school budget alone.
Richard Poulton April 06, 2014 at 10:13 AM
Dave, very good points. I know Roberts Rules are tried to be followed, well as close as possible. Read MoreBut the masses can be very disrupted as you stated. Ever see a video of the British Parliament in session? Everyone yelling and clapping, screaming for one side of the others views? An these are the elected members doing it. This is what some public hearings are like here in EH. Very difficult to control. As for your comment as to meetings held, everyone available on the towns web site, viewing town clerks site. But, if anyone has any questions about the wetlands commission I would be glad to answer right here.

Based on DB's comment it appears he/she is referring to the GOP party somewhere and is involved in Read Morepossible some illegal actions and somehow something involves EH. Comment wasn't very clear. Well, seeing how he/she seems to indicate that the GOP people are getting in trouble, lets keep everything fair. As 03 3/27/2014, the following DEM'S are in serious trouble as well. Three CA State Sen.'s recently arrested for things like gun trafficking, bribery, perjury and voter fraud. Mayors in Charlotte, New Orleans, Trenton, San Diagio, Detroit, and Biringham all arrested for bribery or other serious crimes while in public office. Office of NY State Assemblyman just raided by the FBI, and two NY State Sen's just indicted on corruption charges. Oh, one more thing, RI Speaker of the House just resigned after his office was raided by the Fed's and IRS. Again, all democratics. So, you see folks it's not just the GOP that has problems. Let's be fair in reporting.
