Maturo: 'I Stand Behind Behind Our Men And Women In Blue'

"We will get through this," East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr said of the indictment of four East Haven Police officers for alleged civil rights violations.

East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr is unequivocal of his support for the East Haven Police Department.

"I stand behind our men and women in blue," Maturo told East Haven Patch.

Maturo's remarks come on the heels of the Federal Bureua of Investigation's arrest of four East Haven Police officers Tuesday for alleged criminal civil rights violations against Latino residents and others.

The mayor added that he felt the situation was particurly unfortunate for East Haven Police Department members and their families.

"I feel for them," he said.

Maturo said all four officers — Dennis Spaulding, David Cari, Jason Zullo and Sgt. John Miller — were now on administrative leave, where they will remain until the "matter is resolved."

Maturo added that while this will be a difficult time for the town, his administration will be taking things "day by day."

"We will get through this," he said.

"And I just want to assure the public that our men and woman in uniform will be out there protecting them as normal," Maturo said.

oh Joe!!!! Nooooo..... They need to be held accountable for their actions. Although, there are numerous illegals in the town, they came here to escape the life of poverty and abuse that they were accustomed to and to make a better life for their families. I have know one of those officers since he was a teenager and he has always been prejudiced against the latinos and blacks!!

Who would want to even live in this town with having A GANG pose as police officers and a mayor who is clearly racist. Forget protecting your self against criminals its the boys in blue that you need to be more afraid of. So who do you call when your in need of help "ghostbusters". There should be a weekly review of ALL cops and they should be monitored like pedophiles are monitored because they are just as worst

Hahaha you have NO IDEA about anything in the town of East Haven. It's a good town and a safe one. And, you know why? Because the EH Police Dept. doesn't take any chit from anyone no matter what color they are. You break the law, black, tan, white, red or blue, you get arrested. Very simple. If you don't like EH, stay out. EH residents don't want you here if you break the lawn.

Once again, Maturo was joking around and I know him and am sure he meant NOTHING derogatory (sp) about his taco remark. Secondly, get over it people, Capone is GONE!! Stop whining about the past. Maturo is a good mayor. Certainly better than Capone and a possible would be Finkle. He cares about the residents of East Haven and has proven that to me many times. If the Spanish speaking community, Latinos, Hispanics, South Americans, etc. was treated wrongly by the police, don't feel special. The East Haven police, unfortunately, are not the best police force around. EH police department DEFINITELY needs some work. In the 35 years of living in EH, my experience with them was rarely a knowledable or positive one in comparison to other cities I've lived in. The officers definitely need alot of work and proper training. Can we please get passed the taco? Geez
