[UPDATED at 1pm] Department to Report Its Findings into East Haven Police
Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division and U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut will hold a press conference today at 1 p.m. to discuss the Department of Justice’s findings.

Roy L. Austin Jr., Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division, and David B. Fein, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, will hold a press conference today at U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Haven at 1 p.m. today to discuss the Department of Justice’s findings in the pattern or practice investigation involving the East Haven Police Department.
The East Haven Police Department has been the subject of a federal grand jury investigation and a U.S. Department of Justice inquiry into allegations of racial profiling and police brutality against Hispanic residents.
In addition, the department has also been the target of a civil lawsuit.

Unless comments are laced with profanity or strong personal attacks or threats using a person's real name, why delete them? Is one person's opinion as to whether a comment is appropriate or inappropriate relative to open discussion? This seems awfully petty.

If you only read one link, read the third one. The DOJ is being investigated for corruption themselves. They shouldnt be able to conduct investigations until there books are clear. They throw stones and live in a huge glass house.

I read about this much earlier and is a little scary, referring to the 3rd piece. On another note though, lets reverse the roles. Minority P.O. stops cars, over and over again, conducting various M/V investigations, and the occupants are white. Can it be shown that the minority officer is profiling white drivers? When there is one group of people in constant violation(s) of the state's laws, and that group just happens to be in the minority of the population, how is that profiling? I guess law enforcement is suppose to turn a blind eye to any violation observed in the course of their duty because a driver is a latin. I don't know why anyone would want to go into law enforcement these days!

Basically the letter says..the EHPD needs to do better and develop and update policies and procedures. What a waste of taxpayer money. I would still like to know, of the people stopped for traffic violations, how many were guilty.

I can't believe Maturo actually went on the News and tried to blame the previous administration as this "mostly happened" while she was Mayor. Someone get that man a calendar.
Read the whole report, and tell me Gallo's fit to lead a dept and doing his job.

I've lived in East Haven for 25 years. I can't believe that man, Maturo, actually went on camera with that BS. Mayor Capone did exactly the right thing by putting Chief Gallo on leave. She was privy to a lot of facts about this case but was not allowed to speak about it. The problem with the PD did NOT start during her administration. It was rampant during the 10 years Maturo was mayor and the "Good Ol' Boys" used to joke about it (remember the T-shirts?) Who does he think he's kidding? The republicans effectively used this issue during the last campaign, pitting the EHPD supporters (the factless) against Mayor Capone. Well, now they got what they wanted. They certainly succeeded at putting East Haven on the map for having the most uninformed, gullible electorate in the state who put this backward, ignorant and racist administration back in office. It should get real interesting from here on. God help us.

The one thing that I don't quite understand is, if the majority of the traffic stops occurred during the 4 - 12 p.m. shift, how does the officer have any idea as to who he is pulling over, since it's more than likely, already dark.
