Become a Friend of the Library

The Friends of the East Haven Hagaman Library are looking for new members to help with programs, fundraising and publicity.

In June of 2010 the Friends of the East Haven won the Friends of Connecticut Libraries group award for outstanding effort in 2010.

The original Friends group was established back in 1983, and over the past ten years the group has grown to more than 100 members.

The purpose of the Friends of the East Haven Hagaman Library is to provide the library with strong support and to work continuously toward improving the town’s library facility and services.

Programs have included art appreciation lectures, theater programs, author book signings, and guest speakers on various topics. The group has an annual book sale at the every year.

Serving the Community

In 2010 they raised more than $1,000 for the book sale. Some other very successful fundraisers include: Appraisal Fairs, Fashion Shows, Military Whist Parties, and Book and Bake Sales, just to name a few.

The money raised by the Friends allows the library to better serve the community by providing the funding for more special programs and events, computers and other equipment and furnishings.

The library has been able to provide the community with a wireless network that can be hooked into throughout the library building, electronic books such as the Amazon Kindle, Apple iPads, Laptops, Blue-ray Discs as well as special programs and concerts.

This past fall, Friends group funding allowed the library to purchase an , a new educational tool that allows children ages two to 10 to play learning games in both English and Spanish.
